Stage 3 of Anorexia and the Effects That it Can Have on Your Daughter Or Loved One

Frequently, girls who develop anorexia have a history of being friendly, protective, compliant, agreeable, and non confrontational- usually they are not assertive out side their immediate family (where they can be opposite). The third stage develops when the girl with anorexia has been criticized for becoming too thin by many around her. The girl has disregarded their scolding, and now their demands to stop losing weight and to start gaining are renewed. Around some time the girl realizes that for the first time in her life she has become defiant to everyone around her. From this point on conflict doesn’t bother her. She doesn’t worry about what other think or say about her actions. She doesn’t feel the need to please them.

The anorexic is aware, however, that she is comfortable with this new-found defiance only in defense of her anorexia. The girl or woman does at least feel a new sense of empowerment, even if its only in this one area. It has become the area that’s the most important to her. The young girl demonstrates to her family that she has reached the third stage when she begins to demand special conditions before she will eat. For example, the girl may drag her loved ones from restaurant to restaurant in search for the perfect fat-free meal or menu. At home, she may watch over whoever is cooking to make sure they aren’t adding any extra calories with the meal. These are sure signs that the disorder is getting worse and help is needed.

Quit smoking for good

You keep trying to give up those dreaded cigarettes but just keep failing. You tell yourself, “OK from New years I will lead that healthy lifestyle and give up smoking”. It’s not even February and you are in full swing of smoking a pack a day. Sadly you are not alone. Many people decide to give up smoking for good, only to continue with their habit for many years.

You are aware of the health, financial and social risks associated with smoking but you cannot help but continuing. It’s a habit that just will not go away, until now. How to give up smoking for good is very much possible, if you know how.

Using NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and Hypnosis can help identify your real reasons for smoking and how to change your thought process. NLP looks at how you think, behave and can change. NLP allows fast, positive changes in your thought process.

How will NLP and Hypnosis Help You Give up Smoking for Good?

- Here’s a fact to begin with. Consciously we want to give up smoking, but our unconscious mind tells us that we cannot because we need it, we feel relaxed by it, it is a stress relief and that smoking makes us feel better. By smoking for years, cigarette after cigarette our mind is now conditioned to think this way. Now we think quitting smoking is very difficult.

- Go back to when you smoked your first cigarette. For most people probably including yourself, you coughed, felt a headache and generally it was an unpleasant feeling. At that time you had uncomfortable physical reactions. Turn the clock forward to today. You are now addicted to nicotine. Those uncomfortable feelings of smoking are now replaced with relaxation and confidence. Why? You have conditioned your mind to smoke. There is now a way to change your thought process.

- Hypnotherapy and NLP will allow you to retrain your mind. As a smoker it will ask you to disregard the false beliefs about how hard it is to give up smoking for good. Your thoughts of smoking will be replaced with negativity, ill health and general depression. So as a result, the all too familiar withdrawal pangs of irritability, mood swings and cravings, the primary reasons why people fail to permanently quit smoking, will be replaced with feelings of relaxation, improved self confidence and overall happiness.

Do You Have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? Options to Heal Aching Wrists

If you have recurring wrist pain and suspect it is carpal tunnel syndrome, there are simple tests to confirm it. Aching wrists and numb hands can be caused by other conditions, but the most common symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome are numbness or tingling in the fingers and pain in the hand, fingers or wrist.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the wrist other conditions that can exacerbate that include arthritis, pregnancy, obesity and hypothyroidism.

There are three main tests:

In the Tinel Test, the doctor presses on (or taps) the median nerve in the patient’s wrist. If the patient feels increased tingling or a shock-type sensation, that’s a good indication of carpal tunnel syndrome.

The Phalen Test is one you can do yourself. Hold your arms straight out in front of you at ninety degrees to your body. Press the backs of your hands along with the skin together for one minute. This compresses the carpal tunnel and will cause similar symptoms.

An EMG (electromyogram) can be used to detect abnormalities in how well an electric impulse conducts along the nerve.

Treatments

Rest and strengthening are the most natural ways to heal aching wrists, and have the most consistent results. This can be assisted by taking time off from the activity that’s causing it, getting an ergonomic keyboard and mouse, etc, or following a program designed to relieve repetitive strain injury to the wrist.

Massage is an excellent way to loosen muscles and assist with blood flow. Other alternative therapies may help, such as acupuncture.

Anti-inflammatory medications are frequently used, but can has negative side effects such as stomach upsets. They should not be taken long-term

Wrist braces can provide immediate relief in severe cases but are not effective long term without strength exercises

Cortisone injections can decrease inflammation around the nerve, and are often effective at masking the pain as the cortisone is delivered to the source of the pain. This should only be used sparingly, if at all, and only work 80% of the time.

As a last result, surgical treatments are available and are mostly effective. A carpal tunnel release involves reducing the tension in the fibrous sheath around the carpal tunnel by making an incision in it. The two ways of doing this are open (where the surgeon makes a 4cm incision in the hand), or endoscopic (where the surgeon makes a 1cm incision in the wrist and uses an endoscope with a knife attached to the camera to make the incision. The endoscopic method is tricky and it is easy to accidentally cut the nerve. Surgery has, at best, a 95% success rate, and 1-2% of cases experience ongoing pain.

Cure For a Migraine Headache

Those of us who suffer from migraine headaches are forever looking for a cure. Unfortunately the cure for this miserable complaint has never really been found. Maybe this is because not everyone suffers migraines for the same reason.

When a migraine strikes though, whatever the cause, it’s an extremely painful, distressing and nauseous experience.

There can be many triggers which cause the headaches to start. It’s generally agreed that it can be anything from an allergy or allergies, to way of life, alcohol consumption, illness, and even not enough sleep.

Help With Migraine Symptoms

There are various things that can be done to help to alleviate the symptoms. Your G.P. may prescribe medication which will help to reduce pain level, but remember some medications can in fact trigger a migraine in the first place so be careful.

Women, for instance, who take the birth control pill or H.R.T. sometimes find that this will cause them to suddenly have a migraine when they have never experienced one before.

Rest is one of the best ways to cope with a really bad migraine attack, and lying in a darkened room, trying to remain calm will definitely help.

Massaging with Lavender oil is another aid. With thumb and forefinger gently massage between the eyebrows, slowly moving your fingers up over the forehead, and gradually down to the outer edges of your eyes, and back behind the ears and down the neck. You must be very gentle when massaging as you don’t want to make the situation worse by rough handling.

What You Eat And Drink Can Affect Migraine Headaches

Your diet may also play a part in your suffering, so it’s a good idea to ensure you’re on a diet of lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Try to avoid processed foods, and fatty foods, as they will exacerbate your problem and wont do you much good generally.

Drinking water and fruit juices all help to keep your body in good working order, provided of course you’re not allergic to any type of fruit.

Allergies to certain pollens and grasses, and even a hot sunny day, can bring on a migraine, so try to pinpoint what you think might be causing the problem and eliminate it.

If you are a naturally anxious person, or are going through a particularly stressful time, try to counteract this with relaxation techniques such as yoga, dancing classes, painting and drawing, or even just lying down and practising deep breathing.

More Help For Migraine Sufferers

The cure for migraine headaches is illusive, but you can help yourself by trying some of the above.
